Note: This tutorial assumes the reader has experience with Web3 wallets. If this is all new to you, check out some of these links:
There are three quick steps to acquiring an avatar:
- Setup your Account with a Web3 wallet.
Setting up an account on Animochi.io is much like any other platform (username, password, etc).
However, in order to claim an avatar, a user must connect their account to their Web3 wallet. This can be done by clicking the “Add Wallet Address” button on your account dashboard:
This will bring you to the page to add a wallet. Make sure your wallet is connected to the Animochi.io site and select the account on your wallet you wish to use and select the “Add” button. A prompt will appear to request you sign to verify that you own the account. A wallet may only be added to one account.
Note: If you came to the website after buying an avatar from a third party, your avatar account should update with your avatar’s mint number shortly after adding your wallet to your account
2. Change your wallet network to Polygon.
Animochi uses Polygon to verify ownership of avatars. Configuring your Web3 wallet is a straightforward process, as illustrated by the below tutorial:
Setting up Metamask for Polygon (Matic Network)
Polygon is a protocol and a framework for building and connecting Ethereum-compatible blockchain networks.
3. Fund your account.
We do not charge you to claim avatars. However, you do have to pay gas fees for a transaction to process. In order to keep this cost as low as possible (approximately $0.02 at the time of writing), we chose to use Polygon. This requires you to transfer some Matic coin (Polygon’s native crypto) from the ETH network to the Matic network. Polygon has a great set of tools to accomplish this, which can be found here.
